Munchkin's Mini Shetland Reserve was founded in 2014 to save Shetland's miniatures from misuse, loneliness and negligence. Each of our stallions is handled as an individual with their own personality and temperament. Males are neutered on arriving because we do not encourage random breedings. You will quickly unwind and become part of the host families with the loving, friendliness and assistance of our beautiful team.
Currently, 30-50 miles around our center are being restored on a long-term credit base. At the moment we have over 20 rehabilitation stallions and we are happy to visit them in their new home. They will always be owned by Orchkins so that they can come back to us in changed conditions to secure theirs.
A lot of Shetland' s are purchased as companions or just to be sweet. They are often not given the care they need, are called "naughty" and can become habitually inferior. We' re a home for tiny shelters in real need, providing the necessary attentiveness and a little more TLC.
The Shetland pony is very winterhardy, a local race that lives off the outdoors. Some of our stallions have limited pasture in summers because they can be susceptible to Laminitis, a distressing state that affects the foot with too much sugary pigment. You can choose from a variety of salts and minerals in the paddock and extra pony herbals.
We' re looking forward to your coming to see us (by arrangement only), so please get in touch if you would like to get to know the horses.
