Hippopotamus horse ranch in Rootstown, Ohio belonging to Ray & Martha Ross Rebecca Legros.
Following some research on many different options, we decided on the thumbnail animal. We have been strongly engaged in the industry of small horses since then. It was our initial plan to train them to ride as a group. You can see the paired horses on the February/March 1985 edition frontpage.
Most of us know that the possession of minature horses is like a crispbread. Soon, we decided to become active as a breeder of the minature horses. In 1976 we bought a two-year-old filly called Ohio's Salt and Pepper; a half-sister to the wonderful little stud, who was to become known as the notorious Flying W Farms Little Blue Boy.
Yes, she belongs together with her second daugther to the Swing-Team, which is shown on the February/March 1985 edition this year. It was part of the first exhibition of the miniature horse in Kentucky Horse Park in 1984, when we came out of the "Great Barn".
When she was young, we showed her in confirmand and drafts training courses. Until 2004, we showed it further under the tension belt. She was AMHA's National Champion Multiple Hitch in Drafts in 2001, 2002 and 2003 with two girls, two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter (six in hand).
When she last won the nation she was twenty-nine years old. In 1994 she had another child and another grandchild who were part of AMHA's 1994 Multiple Hitch in Draft Harness series. It even has two great-grandchildren who have become state masters. One of them, Philia Blaze's Jubilee, was the Reserve Grand Champion Junior Stallion, and the other, Philia Blaze's Zanzabar, was the Nat. Championship Pleasure Driver Stallion.
He was also twice AMHA Honor Roll Champion as Pleasure Driving Stallion and a Top Ten Champion of the German Championships.
