The talkSPORT style Talksport, belonging to the Wireless Group, is a sport and global audio partner of the Premier League. Talksport is the only nationwide broadcaster to broadcast 24 hour a day sport debate and commentary after 39 hour non-sporting coverage on 2 April 2012.

Contents include face-to-face reports on the game, excluding interview with top personalities from the world of games and entertaining, telephone calls and discussions. Talksport is the offical channel for several competitions, among them the Premier League. Talksport in the UK is available on 1053 kHz-, 1071 hHz-, 1089 hHz- and 1107 hHz-, DAB-, Sky-, Virgin Media-, Freeview-, cell board- and on-line at talksport.com.

Since April 2016 Talksport is available on Freesat. Talksport broadcast Talksport comments on every Premier League football game live worldwide in several different language versions, outside the UK and Republic of Ireland, among them English, Spanish and Mandarin. One year later, Talk Radio started a new show of breakfasts presented by Paul Ross and Carol McGiffin.

The former BBC radio 1 DJ Simon Bates as well as James Whale, Ian Collins and Mike Dickin followed. Talks made its first trip into the universe of sport broadcasting bidder privileges by acquiring the broadcasting privileges for BBC Football League Football Five live for the 1997-98 BBC Football League broadcasting period.

The channel also broadcasted its first FIFA World Cup from France in 1998, adding the Sky Sports comments of Alan Parry and Andy Gray to comment on the main games. Talks Radio also purchased the right to transmit Manchester United's Champions League games for the 1998-99 campaign.

TalkCo Holdings, whose president and CEO was former Sun Ed. Kelvin MacKenzie, acquired Talk Radio on November 12, 1998. This resulted in a massive evacuation of hosts such as Nick Abbot, Anna Raeburn, Tommy Boyd and Peter Deeley, introducing a more sports-oriented program plan, among them The Sportszone with Alan Parry, Gary Newbon, Tony Lockwood, Tom Watt and former Century Radio sport journalist Dave Roberts, who introduced the week-end issue of The Sports Breakfast.

At the end of 1999, TalkCo, renamed The Wireless Group, announce a re-launch of Talk Radio to become the UK's first ever nationwide professional sport broadcaster named Talksport. It was relaunched at around 12 p.m. on 17 January 2000 and was followed by the Oxford Street office which moved to a new Hatfields based office on the South Bank of the River Thames.

The programme, which today is mainly devoted to sporting activities, has been dramatically changed, starting with the Sportbreakfast Show, a mid-morning car show entitled The Car Guys, and continuing with sporting activities in the afternoons and evenings. Talksport acquired the broadcasting copyrights for Manchester United, Arsenal and Newcastle in the UEFA Champions League, the FA Cup, the English soccer countries, the UEFA Cup, the English Olympic tours to South Africa, Zimbabwe, Pakistan and India, the Lions UK and Irish to South Africa and New Zealand, as well as the Super League, Rugby League World Cup and boxing matches to complete its new formats.

Talksports has a choice of moderators and comments on a daily basis. Talksport secures the right to air Premier League matches for the first and foremost. Radiobehörde gave the radio authority authorisation for the radio stations to transmit matches with the participation of Chelsea, Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur only on their London stations. Later, Talksport also managed to secure similar dealings with Everton, Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City for its stations in the Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Lancashire areas, following radio authority authorisation.

It also had the opportunity to share its stations in the West Midlands for plays with Aston Villa, but that never happened. Talksports has signed a contract to become the Aviva Premiership channel. The agreement allows Talksport to comment on select sports throughout the entire seasons either directly on TV or on-line.

Talksports has secured for itself the privileged domestic broadcasting privileges to the English Football League[24]. This gives them the opportunity to transfer up to 110 EFL luminaires per seasons for three years until the end of the 2019/2020 seasons. Previously Scott Taunton was Business Development Director at UTV and in charge of Broadcasting and New Broadcasting.

The Australian has been working in the UK for a decade and succeeded Kelvin MacKenzie as Chief Executive of Talksport in July 2005. Precious Charles is National Radio Controller for Talksport and Talksport 2, as well as for TalkSPORTRT and Virgin Radio UK. Precious is programme director and currently editor-in-chief of TalksportRT.

Talksport has a number of fillers on different frequency bands in a number of areas, particularly where the signals from the 1089 and 1053 Hz head ends overlap: Radio spectrum 1089 and 1053kHz was initially used by BBC Radio 1 between November 1978 and June 1994.

DAB also broadcasts DAB - Digitale Radios, Freeview, Sky, Virgin Media and Freesat throughout the UK. While Talksport is also streaming on-line, some sports commentary is not available on-line due to legal limitations on broadcasting via internet. TalkSport was available on DAB during the 2006 Football Word Cup in some cities in Germany[26].

RAJAR audiences for Q3/2017 show that Talksport's audiences are 3m[27]. Talksports 2 has an audiences of 342,000[28].
